Dear Friends,

West Virginians for Life is making plans for next year’s legislative session. We have met with the leadership in Charleston, WV to talk about our ideas. I would like to introduce you to a new piece of legislation that has passed in two states and is being introduced in Congress: The Unborn Child Protection from Dismemberment Abortion Act.

This bill would outlaw a form of abortion that dismembers the baby’s body in order to remove it from the womb. Like the Partial-Birth Abortion Ban Act, it bans a type of abortion. This particularly barbaric form of abortion is one that is commonly used in the second and third trimester. Dismemberment abortion is defined in the law as “…purposely to dismember a living unborn child and extract him or her one piece at a time from the uterus….”

It is especially important that we pass this legislation, in light of the recent undercover videos released by a group called The Center for Medical Progress. These videos depict top doctors in Planned Parenthood discussing the way that abortionists alter their procedures, using their instruments to dismember babies to obtain intact body parts such as heads, hearts, lungs and livers, which can then be sold.

We do not have a Planned Parenthood that performs abortions in the state of West Virginia. But, we need to eliminate the practice that could lead to the sale of baby body parts wherever that may occur. Passing this law would prevent abortionists from doing the type of abortion that allows them to harvest baby body parts as described in the undercover videos.

Thank you for your continuing support of West Virginians for Life.

Sincerely, for life,

Wanda Franz, President
