Dear Friends for Life,
The 2014 mid-term elections are over and the results are of historic magnitude here in West Virginia where the congressional delegation went Republican. Shelley Moore Capito took the open Senate seat and Evan Jenkins beat long-time Congressional incumbent, Nick Rahall, in the 3rd District. Alex Mooney beat Nick Casey to fill Capito’s empty 2nd Congressional District seat; and 1st Congressional District incumbent, David McKinley, easily defeated challenger Glen Gainer. Senator Joe Manchin is now the only Democrat representing the state.
West Virginians for Life Political Action Committee (WVL-PAC) worked very hard to support good pro-life candidates here in West Virginia on a bipartisan basis. (Click Here to read the Press Release.) We had a state-wide 72% success rate. The voters provided the Republicans with overwhelming numbers of winners. This is due, in part, to voters’ desire to elect legislators who reflect their values regarding the dignity of human life.
In the House of Delegates, WVL-PAC had a 74% winning percentage, resulting in a pro-life majority of 4/5 of the State House. Pro-life supporter, Republican Tim Armstead, will likely become the new Speaker of the House.
In the WV Senate, 60% of pro-life-endorsed candidates won election resulting in 27 out of 34 senators, who support pro-life policies. It appears that the Senate will have a one-person Republican majority in the next legislative session. We look forward to working with the new pro-life majorities and new Republican leadership to pass life-saving legislation in the next West Virginia legislative session.
Thank you for your continuing support for life here in West Virginia. You have made these successes possible because you want your state to have laws that reflect the pro-life values of West Virginians.
